The year is beginning to wind down. We’re just about at the end of November and before we know it, it’ll be Christmas break. For most people, we’re heading into a time when we get a little bit of space from our usual jobs and focus a little more on family and other priorities.
Many of us though, will go from one area of hard work directly into another. We’ll go straight from our office cubicle, or whatever our work is, to racing around the malls for gifts, or to the kitchen to cook up a feast, or to taking kids from one thing to the next. The thing is that we’re prone to work, even when we don’t actually have to.
Before all the chaos hits, I want to remind you again what we’ve been speaking about over these past weeks: you only have one job on this earth and that’s to believe in the One who was sent.
Now don’t get me wrong; I’m not saying you shouldn’t bless your family with a great meal for Thanksgiving, and I’m not saying that honoring your employers is not important, of course those things matter and we’re blessed to be a blessing to others, but what I want us to remember is that the thing which matters more than anything else in our lives is our faith in Jesus Christ, King of kings and Lord of lords. If you’re looking for something to be grateful for this week, be grateful that God so loved the world that He sent is only begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16). There’s nothing that matters more.
Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent.”
