The fact that our sin is no longer our own is a pretty tough one to get our heads around. How is it that I behave in a way that is contrary to God’s will and deserving of punishment, and yet the punishment is not given to me? It just makes no human sense. And yet that is precisely what has happened and more.
You see, when Jesus paid the price for our sin with the currency of His blood, it actually became His legal property. Think about it… as much as we may try to rehash our sins, as much as we may try to define ourselves by our failures, we’re only kidding ourselves. Those sins were bought at a price and so we have no more right to bring them up again because they are gone! God doesn’t even remember them! (Heb. 10:17)
Ponder on that for a while. Consider the sins that seem to plague you – whether through guilt, shame or condemnation. Now do the math: Jesus paid the highest price to take the punishment and power of that sin from you. It’s no longer yours to stress about.
Doesn’t that make you want to live free?
You and I get to stand in a place we don’t deserve, a place we could never earn because of what He did for us on the cross.
Will you pray with me today?
Thank you Lord Jesus for your incredible sacrifice. Thank you for purchasing my freedom by Your blood. Forgive me for holding onto the captivity of my sin. Help me to walk by Your Spirit. I love you.
Romans 5:1-2 NLT
“Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us. Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of undeserved privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God’s glory.”
