What Jesus did for us on the cross is unparalleled in all of history. It’s the defining moment of all creation – the moment that He reconciled us to God by paying the price for our sins on the cross.
When Jesus walked the Earth, man could only approach Jesus with their need. If they wanted to be forgiven, healed, set free, taught the Truth or made whole. Throughout the Matthew, Mark, Luke and John in the Bible we read story after story of people reaching out to Jesus for healing and for teaching. Jairus, Mary, the Woman with the issue of blood, the man delivered from the demon Legion and others all found themselves at His feet in need of something from Him.
At the foot of the cross, at the feet of Jesus, we needed everything He had to be saved from sin’s power and punishment. We were slaves to sin, separated from God and utterly reliant on Jesus for our salvation. But once we believed in Him and what He has done for us, we received our righteousness. We are now right with Him, repositioned as “full of Christ”. We have all of Him and what He has for us. We’ve also become co-heirs, sons and daughers of God. As the righteous of God we no longer find ourselves at the feet of Jesus. We now are united with Jesus Christ.
What many believers don’t realize is that when Christ was raised up, we were raised with Him. Following His resurrection, Jesus is seated at God’s right hand having all power and authority. Ephesians (2:6 NLT) says something quite shocking; namely that God raised us up united with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms!
The fact that Christ is seated speaks of a battle having been won and His work being finished. When we experience battles in our lives we often fight, or become stressed out, but Christs’ position reminds us how we should be. He is seated resting in His Trusting in His work and resting in His authority. Victorious. And according to Ephesians, so are we.
As a believer, you have more authority and power than you may realize. You sit in a position of undeserved privilege, but here’s the kicker: you’re not there for your glory or comfort. Yes, you are there because God loves you and wants the best for His children, but you’re also there to become the image of Christ to a dying, hurting world that desperately needs to see the outworking of grace in your life. His creation is awaiting His children to show up and share His love so they too may become His children.
Settle the fact that you’re saved, forgiven, victorious. Stand firm and bold in your place of privilege… the world needs to see believers living as mature children of God, not people who are endlessly struggling with their standing in Christ. Having been saved at His feet it’s now time to rule from our seats!
Ephesians 2:6-8 NLT
“For he raised us from the dead along with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus. So God can point to us in all future ages as examples of the incredible wealth of his grace and kindness toward us, as shown in all he has done for us who are united with Christ Jesus. God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God.”
